Weekend Roundup: Anti-racist training and a rally at Cornyn’s to #SAVESCOTUS

Message from Board Member, Shane Johnson

I know everyone who’s heard the news about the murderers of Breonna Taylor being acquitted are angry, disgusted, feeling empty/everything is meaningless, or any number of other feelings right now. Your feelings are absolutely right, and please take the time you need today to heal with friends/family/loved ones, go to a local action, or anything else you personally need to do today and for however long you need. As a mixed-race Black man involved in Indivisible organizing in Central Texas, I am really struggling to process all of this too.

However, for me, being in community and taking fulfilling action—that is humanizing and strategic—is how I best process and cope with this and other symptoms of the white supremacy culture and rise of fascism in the US. As a long-time community organizer, I know that community organizing is the ONLY solution to the social systems and culture of white supremacy in this country that murders black people literally every day. I’m leading the intro to community organizing training below this Saturday (same time as last week) to build off the super-basic intro to anti-racism last week. Please join if you’re at all able to so that we can really build community political power longer-term and be able to channel this momentum into changing the f**ked up realities of this country. Of course, please don’t feel any pressure to join in any events over right now and prioritize your own healing and self-care. Much love!

Indivisible Austin’s Intro to (Anti-racist) Community Organizing

11 a.m. Join Indivisible Austin for the second part in our anti-racist organizing series, an introductory training on (anti-racist) community organizing! We will go over what community organizing is, some examples of historic community organizing, and how community organizing (done right) is putting anti-racism into practice. Learning to practice anti-racism through true (anti-racist) community organizing is essential to winning any of our electoral, legislative, or policy fights in the US’s white supremacist political system to defeat fascism. Spanish interpretation available.

RIP RGB

#SAVESCOTUS – HONOR HER WISH

2 p.m. at John Cornyn’s Austin office (outside the Chase Bank building), 221 W 6th St.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a champion for civil rights and gender equality, passed away on September 18. We cannot let Donald Trump destroy her legacy by replacing her with a justice from his shortlist of conservative extremists. Anyone Trump picks to replace RBG would no doubt undo all of the progressive change she fought for her whole life. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has already declared he will bring Trump’s nomination to the floor for the vote. We cannot let this happen. We have to block everything Republicans try to do to get this nomination confirmed and we have to fight like hell to take back the Senate and the White House in November.

**MAY HER MEMORY BE A REVOLUTION**

**This is a socially distanced event and masks are required**
