Lobby Days at the 86th Texas Legislature

Lobby Days are a great way to use your collective power to make your voices heard at the Texas Legislature. We’ve compiled as many as we could find. Wherever possible, we included non-Facebook links, but most of these organizations rely primarily on Facebook to get the word out. We will update this page as new information becomes available.

TX Black Women Rise Up Advocacy Day at The Capitol

Hosted by The Afiya Center

Facebook event

Last session, The Afiya Center’s advocacy was instrumental in helping pass 4 bills that allowed for the further study of maternal mortality, an issue that disproportionately affects black women. Join us again this year at the 86th Legislative Session in Austin for our TXBlackWomanRiseUp Advocacy Day on February 26th.

This year’s theme is “Unapologetically Black”, where we are encouraging women to show up, be black, and show out. Black women don’t need to ask permission to occupy any space they desire or speak their minds. Stand with us as we are UnapologeticallyBlack at the Capitol!

Let the People Vote! Texas Rally for Medicaid Expansion

Hosted by Indivisible Austin, Cover Texas Now, Children’s Defense Fund Texas & many more

Facebook event

Texas leaders have had six years to expand Medicaid and they aren’t getting it done. So let the people vote!

Since 2013, 36 states have accepted the Medicaid expansion funding offered by the federal government to cover uninsured low-wage workers.

Meanwhile, for six years, Texas leaders have failed to take action on health care as our state endured the worst uninsured rate in the nation and the consequences for maternal and infant health, mental health, the opioid epidemic, rural hospitals, families’ medical bills, and more.

Now it’s time for state leaders to get out of the way and pass legislation to let Texans vote on whether our state will expand Medicaid.

Nearly 25% of Texas adults don’t have health insurance. More than 830,000 Texas children are uninsured. We have the highest uninsured rate and the most uninsured people of any state. On March 4 we’ll join together with health care advocates from across the state to tell our lawmakers know that expanding Medicaid and protecting health care is a top priority for Texans.

Monday, March 11

March on the Capitol for Texas Public Education

Day of Action for Immigrant Families

Hosted by Reform Immigration for Texas Alliance (RITA)

Facebook event

Texas is under attack. The current administration has used Texas and its communities as scapegoats to push their Wall agenda. As a result, Texas communities have been slandered and now, our Texas is in danger of suffering the consequences of decisions made by legislators who do not know us. It is time that we demand our state elected officials to stand up for Texas and demand the respect that our communities deserve. These elected officials, both at the national and state level, must understand that as Texans we will not tolerate legislature and rhetoric that attacks our communities and values. We must become a constant and stark reminder that we will not remain silent in the face of attacks and that every time they forget, we will come back to remind them of their responsibility to defend our state, our people, and our communities. Join us as we rally and conduct legislative visits to make our demands heard!
