Coronavirus: Support Austin artists and small businesses impacted by the SXSW cancelation
The cancelation of SXSW due to coronavirus is financially crushing for local creatives and small businesses. Many have lost gigs and revenue that they were counting on. Additionally, wage earners from many industries will suffer lost income and often no paid sick leave (thanks, Ken Paxton). Let’s all show them our support.

Local political consultant Harold Cook also had this brilliant idea to support service workers: Use the hashtag #TipforTwo when you double your tips in Austin!
Maybe this idea isn’t for you, but I keep thinking I might do a one-person movement, #TipForTwo, tipping double my typical 20% in Austin during when #SXSW would have been, to help Austin service industry folks shoulder their tremendous losses. Ok idea or nah?

Meanwhile local candidates are taking action, filling a void left by the Trump administration’s incompetence.
Julie Oliver, who last week won the Democratic primary to become the nominee facing TX25’s Rep. Roger Williams, already has a Coronavirus Response resource on her website.
Dr. Christine Mann, a physician who won the most votes in the Democratic primary in TX31 (she’ll face Donna Imam in the May runoff election) posted this video:
I’ve waited to comment on the Coronavirus conversations until we had more information from the CDC or this Administration but unfortunately that hasn’t happened yet. I do want to talk to you this week about what we do know though! Keep an eye out for more info from me this week. pic.twitter.com/IOCv1m2ofc
