Take Action
March for “Homes Not Handcuffs”
Saturday, Nov. 2 at noon at the Governor’s Mansion, 1010 Colorado St.
Gov. Abbott is threatening our city and enticing fear and hatred of our most vulnerable neighbors. The Governor is planning to use the Texas Department of Transportation to clear encampments under many of Austin’s highways. Individuals experiencing homelessness are at risk of losing shelter and belongings.
Austin must stand up to hate! Join us as we protest Gov. Abbott’s dehumanizing attack and demand real solutions to homelessness.
We’ll start with a protest at the Governor’s Mansion, march to the Republic Party of Texas headquarters, and end back at the Governor’s Mansion.
Vote No on Prop 4
From the Center for Public Policy Priorities (CPPP):
- Unfairly lets the rich continue to take advantage of the rest of us, so they don’t have to pay their fair share.
- Unnecessarily bans state income taxes, even though the Texas Constitution already gives voters control over creating a state income tax.
- Unwisely hurts our future ability to raise the necessary resources for quality schools, affordable health care, and better roads.

Stop the BS witness intimidation in the SCIF
Last week a gang of House GOP members staged a sit-in to delay Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary Laura Cooper’s witness testimony in Trump’s impeachment proceedings. Their complaint is that the testimony is being held in private committee hearings, rather than in public. This is a meritless complaint: More than 45 House GOP members (including some who participated in the sit-in) sit on the committees where witnesses are testifying. And the House rules—established by Speaker John Boehner in 2015—require this kind of sensitive testimony to be held in committee, not in public.
The real purpose of this stunt was to delay proceedings and intimidate witnesses—and by that measure was successful. It does not appear that any Central Texas members participated directly in the stunt—although of course Louie Gohmert was there—but some were at the very least sympathetic.
About to head back in to the unfortunately “secret” depositions in which @HouseDemocrats refuse to do the bare minimum of at least letting all of my colleagues read the full transcripts. To pursue the facts, this is the least they could do. @HouseGOP pic.twitter.com/7598KlYQV8

Call your reps and demand that they speak out against witness intimidation and political idiocy. Tell them:
- What happened was an absolute dereliction of duty by the GOP members who joined in, and
- A violation of national security.
- You want to be ON THE RECORD as opposing what they did, and frankly, you think GOP members were also trying to intimidate the witness.

Join the Austin #SickOfItTX Block Walk
Health care was the top issue for Texas voters in 2018… but state leaders once again failed to expand health coverage in 2019. Indivisible Austin is sick of it. That’s why we’re co-hosting the #SickOfItTX Block Walk for Health Care in Austin on Nov. 9 as part of a statewide weekend of action for health care.
We’ll be asking neighbors three key questions:
- Do you have health insurance?
- Do your children have health insurance?
- What do you do when you get sick?
These conversation starters will help us better understand the needs of our fellow Texans and recruit others to get involved. Then we’ll give our fellow Texans a megaphone so lawmakers will hear them loud and clear.
Go to www.sickofittx.com/events and sign up for the Austin Block Walk.
