Help prevent the latest effort to criminalize homelessness
Save Austin Now, a group fronted by the Travis County Republican Party chair, is once again trying to make homelessness a crime in Austin and double down on policing as the answer to poverty. They’ve launched a new petition drive to get on the ballot in May and, based on our experience with their canvassers earlier this year, they’ll lie, cheat and steal to achieve their goals.
Along with the pandemic, organized people interrupting their canvassing efforts and educating people about their true goals stopped them from collecting enough signatures this summer, and we need to come together again. Homes Not Handcuffs will host a 1-hour zoom training session so you can learn how we successfully (and safely) kept them from getting their signatures.
Support Jimmy Flannigan and Alison Alter in the runoff elections
We have just two week until the December 15 runoff elections, and Jimmy Flannigan and Alison Alter need your support fending off far-right challengers. There is always a massive dropoff in voter turnout between general elections and runoffs, which allows a very small group of people to determine the outcome. It is imperative that voters in Districts 6 & 10 show up to vote, and that the rest of us support the incumbents in every way we can.

Texas Civil Rights Project’s “Take Back The Vote” Convening
We invite you to attend the fourth annual Take Back The Vote Convening on December 7th – 9th virtually via Zoom. We’ll reflect on the 2020 election to identify challenges and successes that will impact our voting rights work moving forward and present you with valuable legal information and litigation updates that can inform your organizing priorities and advocacy work related to the 2021 legislative session.

Austin Justice Coalition’s “A Community Conversation: Barriers to Reentry”
6 p.m. Reentry is the transition of individuals from incarceration back into the community. 95% of those who are incarcerated will eventually return to the community.
How often do you consider the impacts of reentry on your life, your family, your workplace, and your faith community?
The Austin/Travis County Reentry Roundtable and the Austin Justice Coalition will co-host a virtual Community Conversation on Reentry on Monday, December 7th, 2020 from 6:00-7:30. This invitation is open to any community member who is interested in learning more about the impact of reentry on individuals and our community as a whole. This event will be more intimate than a town hall meeting – we will start with an overview of the state of reentry in Travis County and then will move into small group conversations to promote dialogue.

Fair Maps Texas: Virtual Public Input Hearings
The purpose of these hearings is to solicit public input about a region’s unique geographic and demographic characteristics from those residents most familiar with their own neighborhoods as well as ways to improve the upcoming redistricting process. This testimony is meant to provide context to the 2020 Census data and assists the Legislature when it draws district boundaries, so that district lines are drawn to keep your community whole and grouped with nearby communities with similar interests.

I’m a conservative with u but u guys need a good plan to deal with homelessness, which u have not shown you have, all talk. Get your act together and get serious! Use some practical Texas methods that don’t cost money and fail.
